  • Background

Cabernet Sauvignon was the second varietal to appear under our Brown Estate label. Following four vintages of strictly Zinfandel production we began bottling our estate Cab Sauv with the 2000 vintage. This wine historically has been produced from two vineyards blocks on the east side of our property: our hillside Terraces Block at elevation 1300 feet, which long struggled to yield a few tons of sparsely clustered tiny berries with inky intensity, and our Far East Block, surrounded by oak trees in a protected amphitheater, which grows robustly and with minimal intervention. The former was heavily damaged by 2020 wildfire impacts; last harvested in 2021, it was ripped out in 2024. Commencing with the present 2022 vintage, our Estate Cab Sauv represents a single vineyard bottling from our Far East Block.
